Points lead for Courtney Duncan

Courtney Duncan of Bike It DRT Kawasaki moved back into the points lead in the FIM World WMX Women's Motocross Championship after an overwhelming victory in the opening moto at Agueda in Portugal.

The twenty-three year old had acclimatised to the European times zones again during the last couple of weeks, having flown home to New Zealand after the opening round of the series in March, and she immediately established her dominance by earning pole with the fastest lap in Timed Practice. Rounding turn one in second place Courtney needed just half a lap to sweep into the lead and immediately opened up a two second lead by the end of the opening lap. Increasing her lead to a comfortable ten seconds by mid-moto she swept to victory by more than twelve seconds in the twenty-minute plus two lap race to earn a maximum twenty-five points and leap from fourth in the standings to take over the series lead headed into tomorrow's second moto.

Courtney Duncan: "That was sweet! I didn't get the best jump off the gate but it was good enough to get round turn one in second place and I soon worked my way to the front. The track was quite different to this morning so I didn't want to take any risks; I just tried to find an all right pace and cruise. I've got the points lead again, so I'm looking forward to another good race tomorrow to build on that."
