Covering both entry level and mid-capacity segments with the recently introduced Z650RS twin, the range began with the introduction of the Z1 Super Four styled Z900RS which, of late, has been joined by the high spec Z900RS SE.

For those that recall the Z650-B1 of 1977, the Z650RS has many design cues but for sure its own distinct form and Retrovolution personality. The 1970’s style fuel tank, sinuous side panels and distinct “duck tail” rear cowl scream classic Z and so do the large, round headlamp and needle instrumentation. This is all hung on a thoroughly modern trellis tube type chassis with contemporary wheels, brakes, suspension, and tyres creating an overall feeling of style, sophistication and safety.

As a core part of Kawasaki’s twelve bike A2 compliant offering for 2023, the Z650RS finds itself in an enviable position of being a first big bike target for newbies, a return to biking for current licence holders and “the only bike I will ever need” for those who understand and appreciate its comprehensive overall riding and ownership package.

For the 900RS the last few years have been exceptional. A machine that, from introduction, has been welcomed by enthusiast “Z heads” as well as those with little prior knowledge of the impact and influence of the 1972 Z1 Super Four, the Z900RS certainly has “curb appeal”.

It’s Z900 derived motor has been retuned for low and mid-range response without sacrificing the classic Z top end rush while the trellis type tube chassis includes a box section type swing arm and horizontal back link rear suspension complemented by inverted front forks allied to cast spoke style wheels and “tuned for sound” four-into-one exhaust system. There are over twenty styling cues that port over from the original King of Cool Z1 to the Z900RS and attention to detail shows in the pride of ownership felt by tens of thousands of lucky owners globally.

And not only does the Z900RS reflect feelings of the past but the recently launched Z900RS SE evokes the 1970’s trend to personalise and focus on performance. Using the Z900RS as a base, the SE model adds an Öhlins S46 rear shock, re-tuned front suspension settings with new front fork finish. This is coupled with the adoption of Brembo M4.32 front brake calipers and Brembo disc rotors supplied with stopping pressure via steel braided front brake lines. Top this off with an evocative paint scheme and you arrive at a machine which has been in constant demand since its launch.

Building on half a century of Z dominance, the RS family is well equipped to forge ahead for the next fifty.
